Uses of Sodium Acetate in Wastewater Treatment

Sodium acetate has a variety of uses in sewage treatment, mainly including:
1, pH adjustment. Sodium acetate is a kind of alkaline chemical substance, can be hydrolysed to form OH-negative ions, which can help to neutralise the acidic ions in water, such as H+ and NH4+, etc., and maintain the appropriate pH value is conducive to the growth of microorganisms and improve the efficiency of sewage treatment.

2, Supplementary carbon source. In sewage treatment, sodium acetate can be used as an organic carbon source to promote the growth and metabolic activity of microorganisms and accelerate the decomposition and removal of organic matter. This is essential for improving the efficiency and performance of the sewage treatment system.

3, Inhibit metal precipitation. Sodium acetate can combine with heavy metal ions in sewage to reduce the formation of heavy metal precipitation, thus preventing pipe blockage and equipment damage.

4、Promote anaerobic digestion. In the anaerobic tank of sewage treatment plant, sodium acetate helps to cultivate the bacterial colony, promote the anaerobic digestion process, and improve the removal efficiency of total nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen.

5、Prevent the growth of toxic algae. Sodium acetate by interfering with the metabolic process in the cells of toxic algae, can effectively prevent the production of toxic algae in the sewage treatment process, to protect the living environment of aquatic organisms.

In short, sodium acetate plays an important role in sewage treatment, not only helps to regulate water quality, but also improves the efficiency of the sewage treatment system and protects the environment from pollution.
